Connect with Others
Connecting at the Kearney Church of Christ means belonging. Life is meant to be shared and God intends for us to experience this journey of faith together, too. The Bible calls this fellowship. Real fellowship is much more than just showing up at services. It is experiencing life together. It includes unselfish loving, honest sharing, practical serving, sacrificial giving, sympathetic comforting, and more.
Meaningful relationships are often hard to find. Maybe the reason is, you don’t simply “find” them, you have to make them happen. Meaningful relationships develop as you build connections with others. Many people attend our Sunday services faithfully, but if they never connect with others, they will not develop as a fully functioning disciple of Jesus.
What steps should you take to find your place to belong?
Look for others who are likely to have common interests. As you meet people and get to know them, watch for opportunities to meet up with them outside of Sunday morning. There are several “points of entry” where new friends meet and build deeper relationships within our church:
- Bible Classes - Bible class is smaller, personalized, relaxed and conversational. It’s the perfect place to talk about life and learn more about each other. We have Bible class times planned for Sunday morning at 9:30 and Wednesday night at 7:00. You don’t need to sign up - just show up and join in.
- Throughout the year, we plan activities that everyone is welcome to participate in. You may be interested in our church coed softball league. Some look forward to a week in the Black Hills of South Dakota for a family camp each year in August. Others just enjoy going out to Sunday Lunch together at a local restaurant. Whatever it is, those times are valuable - even essential - as we learn and grow together.
- We plan community projects that give us opportunities to reach out to our city and to serve. Cruise Nite is a fun night of fellowship on the church parking lot, where we invite the whole town to join us for grilled burgers, snow cones & cotton candy. Cowboy Church is held each summer at the fairgrounds during the County Fair. Vacation Bible School gives us a chance to invite the children in our neighborhood for a fun weekend of crafts, songs and learning. All of these require lots of volunteers and workers, giving you a chance to work side by side with friends.
Everyone has gifts and talents and everyone can make a difference. This is a place where you can connect and belong.
